Selecting the right gaming desktop computer can be a tough call. There are so many quality makes and models out there it can be overwhelming. You might be tempted to forgo some fancy options for a cheaper price. This can be risky.

If you go for economy over features, you may end up disappointed a few months down the line if it won’t run the latest game on the market. Here are some important tips that will help you be more comfortable with your selection.

Resolution. It’s critical that the PC you buy will support your LCD’s native resolution. It’s even better if it can support its maximum resolution, too.

So what is native resolution? Native resolution refers to the number of pixels it supports without scaling the image up or down. If your PC doesn’t have a video card that supports native resolution you may sacrifice image quality.

Interface type. Take note that DVI cables will often provide a sharper image than when VGA cables are used. Be sure that the video connectors on the PC match the monitor. Converters are available but they don’t always work. They may also sacrifice image quality.

If you’re a high end gaming enthusiast, you shouldn’t buy a computer with integrated video. Sure, it may save you money but you will sacrifice quality. To get that low price it likely means that other components were not included.

A better option is to buy a PC that has a dedicated video card. Do some research online and read some reviews before making your choice. You should be able to find out if the one you’re considering is powerful enough to play your games with the desired video resolution. A PCI express 2.0 card will give you what you need for serious gaming.

However, if you only play Flash or Facebook games, you can stick with integrated video.

Take a look at your video game library. How many of those games have you completed? How many those games did you intend to complete, but abandoned because their challenges became too difficult or repetitive? How many role-playing stories have you dedicated dozens of hours to without seeing their endings?

I’ve always prided myself on completing most of the games I play. Sometimes it is a labor of love; other times it’s a labor for labor’s sake. The sense of accomplishment that comes from toppling a difficult boss is a large part of what makes video games alluring. But, even as someone who welcomes a challenge, I often find myself thinking a particular fight is ridiculous, that the design is working against the player, or that I wish there was a way to skip a particular section of a game. While I’m a poster boy for shelving my social life for a night with a boss battle, the reality is that most players do not finish the games they play.

The ultimate goal for game developers is to create an experience that blends challenge with accessibility. How this is achieved is still a wok in progress for the majority of the industry. Most developers still rely on a difficulty level system that allows players to select their skill level at the outset of play. Others implement adaptive AI that adjusts on the fly to your struggles or towering achievements. The most controversial yet highly praised innovations in this field as Bioshock’s vita-chambers and prince of Persia’s saving hand of grace. Both of these games basically wave a white flag in terms of finding a balance in between accessibility and challenge. I love both of these games, but couldn’t shake the feeling that I was cheating in both of them, as neither penalizes the player for failure.

Sucking challenge out of a game is disheartening for a player like me, but for newcomers or the skill-free, being able to complete games that would normally be outside the range of their ability must be a rewarding experience. Developers also get the gratification of knowing that the majority of players are seeing the entire game to which they dedicated years of their lives.

At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, Shigeru Miyamoto detailed another option, one at which I immediately scoffed. In Miyamoto’s upcoming Wii title, New Super Mario Bros., players can activate a function currently dubbed “demo play”. When activated, this mode plays the game for you. It is intended to help stuck players get to the next section of the game. After giving this idea some thought, I realized this might be the white whale developers have been trying to spear since the inception of games.

The PSP is one of the platform you can use for portable entertainment. Yet, in some ways it is no way portable anymore. Why? Well, in order to operate the game system, you absolutely use a UMD, the main medium for storing PSP games and movies. Granted, UMD are so small, but they are not small if you have got many of them. In fact, if you have too many of them, youll have to bring a big case according to how many games you have.

Fortunately, there are alternative solutions. Assuming you have got a memory card, you can download games to your PSP. After doing this, youll be able to run PSP games or movies right from the unit it self. When you download games to your PSP, you can do away with UMDs forever!

So what do you have to do to download games to your PSP? The answer to this question can be found through two websites: PSP Blender and PSP Nerd. For a small fee, each of these resources will allow you to download PSP games and movies quickly and easily. They will also explain in detail how you can transfer these files onto the device.

Of course, if you dont have enough money to use both sites, youre going to have to decide which one is a better fit for your situation. Look at the sections below to get a better understanding of how these resources differ from one another when it comes to downloading PSP games.

1. PSP Blender

PSP blender possesses a very generous collection of PSP games and movies. In fact, PSP aficionados believe that PSP Blender contains the most PSP files anywhere online. This includes miscellaneous files, such as MP3s, television shows, online magazines, demos and game cheats.

You can also use PSP Blender to convert regular DVDs into PSP format. This means you wont have to be limited to watching movies that are already on UMD. Such a feature is extremely advantageous, since there arent as many UMD movies on the market right now.

Finally, PSP blender provides full technical support should you get stuck when trying to download games to your PSP. This includes online chat and a toll-free technical support number.

2. PSP Nerd

PSP Nerd also has a very large selection of PSP games and movies. It is also growing in popularity, even if it doesnt have the PR that PSP Blender currently has.

Most importantly, PSP Nerd has more in-depth tutorials explaining how to download games to your PSP. In fact, unlike PSP Blender, PSP Nerd actually has video tutorials explaining what to do. This is a great way for beginners to fully understand the process associated with downloading PSP games and movies.

It should also be noted that PSP Nerd also provides PSP software emulators.

Have you ever felt that the PS3 controllers werent as good as the Xbox 360s and always wanted to play Call of Duty using the precise analog sticks of the Xbox 360 controller?

Well now you can!

A company called XCM has announced a new adaptor which will allow the crossover conversion to enable you to use a 360 controller on the PS3. The 360 controllers are renowned for their trigger buttons and I personally think this could enhance certain gameplay controllers, especially FPS games.

The XCM Cross Battle Adapter is a USB device which plugs straight into your PS3 and then all you need to do it pop your 360 controller into the adapter and away you go!! You can also go Old Skool with the adapter as it has the added bonus ofrapid fire! Choose the button of your choice of whip Call of Duty: World at War or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare into your PS3 and set your M1 Grand or Desert Eagle to rapid fire and watch your enemies cower at your knees.

Price at $39.99 may seem a little steep, especially is you have to buy a wired Xbox 360 controller on top. But do you think this is something that youre going to buy or take advantage of? Or is this just a gimmick that will just end up being confusing with button configuration?

When I had the original XBox, I did prefer the controllers to the PS2 and would prefer to be using the Xbox 360 controller for FPS games on my PS3.

Let us know your views. Are you happy with the PS3 controllers or do you prefer the Xbox 360 controllers?
